Impossible to agree more with Felicia Weston. This is THE foundational combatant to the rampant mis/disinformation plaguing us all. If we are to maintain our leadership role on the world stage, education has to become far more robust and viewed as a matter of national security. STEM is not the end all.Critical thinking instruction should be mandatory in secondary education and core curriculum in post secondary. The ability to speak opinions that can be debated, for and against any particular stance, was once a hallmark of a rounded, educated individual. Sadly, much of the open exchange of opinion and critical thinking has been stifled by cancel culture. I miss the days when people could have different opinions, yet still be adults and be friends. I can and will change my mind when presented with valid studies or evidence that points to my opinion being wrong. I took debate class in college, and had, I thought a cruel teacher (now I know better) who would not announce what side of an argument you had to debate, only the topic. That means you had to research both sides of an argument and be prepared to back up your points with research. We need more of that in education. It develops critical thinking. Thanks for an impactful post.

Feeling unheard and powerless can make us turn a blind eye to the truth. Our path with AI may be speeding this up, leading to misunderstandings and the rise of control-driven regimes. However, if we grasp this, we realize we must empower individuals and rebuild trust in our digital age. By fostering a sense of responsibility and changing how power works in our tech-driven world, we can pave the way for a brighter democratic future. This is my mission and what I share here on LinkedIn.Join the conversation: #datadignity #learningpathmakers #wethepeople

What is a fact? What is data? Course demonstrates how the humanities can help STEM majors. The course seeks to help “Students learn to look at the world with fresh, skeptical eyes. They learn to identify illogical arguments and rhetorical strong-arm tactics.”Courses like this strengthen students' ability to identify arguments based on fallacies or false information. #humanities #STEM #scientists #criticalthinking https://lnkd.in/e8PKuUJX

I am delighted to announce new chapters and updates to the Research Handbook! Look for new content on IRB regulations, using AI in your generative writing, building an advisory board, and so much more. I wrote this book for you. What quick, friendly articles would you like to see around getting started in education research? What resources do you wish you could share with your students?https://lnkd.in/gKhu9rAa

Exciting News! I am incredible proud to share our latest publication, "Fostering Culturally-Responsive Calculus Instruction,". It explores how AI enriches global learning experiences. 🤖 In a three-week study, AI-assisted sessions brought together students from China and the U.S., enriching global learning experiences. Our findings show that AI not only enhances understanding but also bridges cultural gaps. This marks my debut publication in a mathematics journal! It's been an incredible journey, and I'm grateful for my amazing research team. 🙏 Michael Edwards Yang Zheng#AIinEducation #edtech #promptengineering

The STEAM Engine==============This article today in The Economic Times makes great argument for a higher education philosophy that seeks to view stem and liberal arts as an integrative learning paradigm. There can’t be any disagreement to this idea. However, higher education institutes are way too much obsessed with churning out ‘industry-ready graduates’ and that tilts the balance towards micro specialisations. In my opinion, as employers realise the changing needs for their business, hopefully, they will warm up to this idea and proactive seek graduates - data science with philosophy major, and similar combinations. As this article’s author argues- “To prepare future generations for a complex, unpredictable world, we must invest in an education that combines the best of both worlds, fostering well-rounded individuals capable of exploring new frontiers, both in outer space and the depths of human understanding. Only then can we truly reach for the stars while keeping our feet firmly on the ground.”#highereducation #stem https://lnkd.in/d_duzsRSDownload Economic Times App to stay updated with Business News - https://lnkd.in/dUpTKhZ
