Why You Should Make Them

  • Easy, quick and delicious!
  • Makes a great homemade food gift
  • Delicious addition to salads – like my Pear Pomegranate Salad

Just 3 Ingredients

For this simple roasted nut recipe we just need:

  • pecans – make sure they’re raw so they don’t get an over-done flavor.
  • pure maple syrup – make sure it’s pure maple syrup (not pancake syrup)
  • fine sea salt – sea salt adds the perfect salty-sweet combination. If you like lots of salt flavor, opt for adding in some flaked sea salt while the nuts cool.

How to Make Candied Pecans (in the oven)

We’ll be using the oven method to make these maple roasted pecans and give these nuts their special roasted flavor.

This is one of those “barely a recipe” recipes because it’s just so simple and straight-forward.

There is just one thing to watch out for, and that’s oven time, to ensure you don’t burn the pecans.

Step 1

In a large bowl combine pecans with maple syrup and sprinkle on sea salt. Make sure to stir well so the pecans are coated.

Step 2

Transfer the maple-coated pecans to a lined medium baking sheet (make sure it’s lined for easier cleanup!). Spread in one even layer – sprinkle on more sea salt here if you’d like.

Step 3

Bake the pecans at 350ºF for 6 minutes, then take out to stir the pecans (getting back into an even layer), and continue cooking for another 5-7 minutes.

Tip: watch after 5 minutes to make sure the pecans don’t brown too much. It can happen quickly.

Step 4

Cool the pecans on the baking sheet completely. As the nuts cool, they’ll get crunchy.

Baking Tips & Notes

A few things to note to help make this recipe easy from start to finish:

Use parchment paper or a silicone mat to line your baking sheet for easier clean-up. (Unless you have a great cerarmic non-stick pan.)

Make sure to get raw pecans (check the label). Because we’re roasting the pecans in the oven, you don’t want to get pre-roasted pecans or you’ll end up with a burnt flavor.

Stir the pecans after 6 minutes, then check again after 5 minutes. You’ll see the maple syrup will start to make the nuts look hardened once they’re done.

Cool the pecans completely. Allowing the pecans to cool before storing or adding to salads, will give you the best crunchy pecans.

Serving Suggestions

Maple Roasted Candied Pecans are great for a variety of occasions!

  • Add them to a charcuterie or dessert board
  • Make as a healthy sweet snack – pecans are a great source of healthy fats plus vitamins and minerals.
  • Add as a crunchy topping to salads.
  • Give as a homemade food gift!

Ingredients

UnitsScale

  • 2 cups raw pecans
  • 4 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt, plus more to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF and line medium baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.
  2. Combine: In a medium bowl combine pecans with maple syrup until well coated. Sprinkle on sea salt and stir again.
  3. Bake: Transfer coated pecans to lined baking sheet, spreading out in single layer. Use a silicone spatula to scrap out leftover maple syrup and add to pecans on sheet. Bake for 6 minutes, remove to stir, then continue baking another 5-7 minutes, until you see maple syrup has soaked well into pecans (but make sure to not over-bake).
  4. Cool: Allow pecans to cool on baking sheet for 15 minutes – the pecans will harden as they cool. Make sure pecans are cooled completely before storing.
