I bet you never knew how easy it was to make homemade strawberry syrup. You can make it in under 30 minutes and it is super simple.

How long does strawberry syrup last?

Strawberry syrup will last for at least a week in the fridge. Since you are heating the syrup, you are killing off any bacteria in the syrup. The sugar acts as a preservative to keep the syrup fresh longer.

How do you thicken fruit syrup?

With this simple strawberry syrup recipe, I recommend cooking it longer to thicken it. By cooking it longer more of the moisture evaporates out and naturally thickens the syrup. If you just don’t have time, you can add a tablespoon of water mixed with a teaspoon of cornstarch. If you are allergic to corn then use arrowroot powder. These are great quick thickeners for any sauce or syrup.

Is strawberry syrup gluten free?

This strawberry syrup recipe is gluten free. That is why this recipe is great, since you can make it yourself to ensure it is gluten free.

Next cut them in to small pieces and place in a pot over medium to low heat to cook for a few minutes. If you want you can add a 1/2 cup of water here. If you do, you can let the strawberries cook a little longer to make the syrup thicker.

After the strawberries have cooked for a few minutes add the sugar and lemon juice and stir. Keep cooking until the desired thickness. This took me about 10 minutes for a deep red and thick syrup.

After you take the syrup off the heat add vanilla for another powerful level of flavor to the syrup.
