Even before the proliferation of streaming services, Lost was a series designed to be binge-watched. Many fans understood this, and they bought the DVDs of each season of the show as it was released. However, if fans didn't also pick up the Lost: The Complete Collection box set, they missed out on a slew of bonus extras and memorabilia from the show. Shortly after the series finale, Lost: The Complete Collection was announced which gathered all six seasons into one release.

This sprawling collection was packaged in a gorgeous box which was made to resemble the island, and it featured all the previously released content from individual seasons. This includes episode commentaries for the pilot and other key episodes, as well as deleted and extended scenes. Fans can watch the actors' audition tapes, as well as revisit the production of select scenes and locations used in the series. The collection also includes the epilogue the fans demanded, "The New Man In Charge" which answered lingering mysteries about the polar bears, the Dharma initiative and the fate of Walt Lloyd. However, the collection also included a number of exclusive bonus features and items just for this release of the series.

Lost: The Complete Collection Comes With Exclusive Bonus Featurettes

Four Retrospectives From the Show and the 'Lost Slapdowns' Comedy Sketches

The bonus features from each season of Lost are intermixed with the episodes. However, Lost: The Complete Collection also came with a bonus disc that contained a number of new retrospectives highlighting the series. The first was Letting Go: Reflections of a Six-Year Journey which serves as a documentary about the cast's feelings on ending their run. There's also Planet Lost, a short documentary about the fans of the show across the globe. Both are good companions to the Getting Lost documentary celebrating the show's 20th anniversary.

"You can't really separate the experience of playing Jack Shephard and the experience of being in Hawaii for six years and working with the people I worked with. And that's all of life; it changes you to some degree. In a lot of respects we are just our memories." -- Matthew Fox in Letting Go: Reflections of a Six-Year Journey.

Also included in Lost: The Complete Collection is a retrospective featurette about the inimitable music of the series. Swan Song: Orchestrating the Final Moments of LOST shows composer Michael Giacchino's emotional final scoring session for the series. Interspersed with this are behind-the-scenes clips from the filming of the Lost series finale. It's an emotional production made even more powerful with the distinct music of the series as its backdrop.

The mysterious Benjamin Linus was the source of many of the castaways' troubles on the island, but he was almost taken out right at the beginning.

Lastly, Lost: The Complete Collection includes a series of short videos called "Lost Slapdowns" where cast members, famous fans and even Jim Henson's Muppets show up to bombard showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse with questions. Of course, none of these videos have actual answers to lingering Lost mysteries and are mostly played for humor. Still, it's a fun series of semi-scripted sketches that allow everyone involved to have fun with the frenzy around the show.

Fans Can Also Relive the Best of the Official Lost Podcasts on the Blu-ray Boxset

Lost: The Complete Collection includes the commentaries and deleted scenes found in the individual season releases. However, the boxset also includes other, previously unreleased deleted scenes from the show. Most of these are short, usually running for less than a minute. Yet, these scenes include detail cut for time that are relevant to the show. For example, one Season 3 deleted scene reveals Sawyer got his ping-pong ball from inside a box of Dharma cereal.

Lost: Why the Smoke Monster Tricked Claire Into Following Him

One of the Lost series' most lingering mysteries is why the Smoke Monster infected Claire Littleton and tricked her into working with him.

Along with deleted scenes, there are additional short videos in the "Lost: On Location" series that highlight behind-the-scenes footage from filming. Some, like "Lost: On Location, 'This Place Is Death,'" showcase complicated scenes filmed in the jungle or beaches of Hawaii. Others, like the video for the episode "Eggtown," show how Kate Austen's trial off-island was filmed. These videos add depth to these scenes and help fans appreciate the work that went into making the show.

"It's not anything personal with Desmond. Desmond is alright. But if Desmond is standing between Ben and his objective, then, you know, something has to be done." -- Michael Emerson in "Ben vs. Desmond."

Lastly, there are other mini-featurettes about key moments from Lost episodes, such as the confrontation between Ben and Desmond, as the former tries to kill Penny Widmore. Other featurettes highlight fan-favorite characters, such as the return of Rose and Bernard in their "retirement" on the island. Again, taking viewers behind-the-scenes in this way helps audience members better appreciate these moments in the series, outside their context in the narrative. The Blu-ray also includes about nine hours' worth of The Official Lost Podcast starting from Season 2.

The Memorabilia From the Series Is Great for Any Lost Fan

The packaging for Lost: The Complete Collection is a collector's item in its own right. The box is a beautiful display piece, made to look like the mysterious island that housed the castaways. Yet even this piece is interactive. A Dharma Initiative penlight is included that, when shined on parts of the packaging and the individual disc sleeves for the seasons reveal fun images that tie into the series' story.

There are two other significant pieces of Lost memorabilia included in the DVD and Blu-ray boxset. There is a smaller version of the wooden ankh Jacob gives to Hurley before he boards the Ajira flight back to the island. Like Hurley's ankh, there is a secret message "from Jacob" in there, which offers instructions on how to find Easter eggs on the discs. There is also a collectible version of Senet, the game Jacob and the Man in Black played.

Also hidden in the box is a "lost entry" related to the Black Rock, the ship that brought Richard Alpert to the island and rested in the center of the jungle. Of course, there are also the typical goodies found in a boxset in Lost: The Complete Collection. There is a full-color booklet full of images from the series. It also contains a full episode guide, so viewers don't have to hit IMDB or any of the wiki pages to find their favorite episodes.

From Hurley's Commercial to a Message from Damon Lindelof, There's More to Find

Using the message from Jacob hidden in the ankh, viewers can figure out how to find Easter eggs on the various discs in Lost: The Complete Collection. While dedicated Lost viewers have documented how to find each of these short videos, the search is part of the fun. For example, on the exclusive bonus features disc, a viewer can highlight the Letting Go: Reflections of a Six-Year Journey title. Then pressing left, left, up, right, down and right causes an ankh symbol to appear on the screen. Viewers then see a five-minute video laying out the rules for Senet.

Most of the hidden Easter eggs are simply fun little videos that build on things viewers have already seen. One shows series co-creator Damon Lindelof conducting the orchestra while it records the score for the series finale. Another shows a commercial Hurley recorded for Mr. Cluck's Chicken in his version of the Flash-sideways world. Most of them are short snippets of interviews or behind-the-scenes moments from Lost's cast and crew.
